Another release from U.S. National Arboretum and its breeding program in McMinnville,TN. It is a cross of two older cultivars ’Snow Queen’ and ’Pee Wee’. It was selected for its large upright flowers which occur a week or so later than most Hydrangea quercifolia cultivars. These remain attractive after those of other cultivars have faded. It was 6.5 feet tall and 9 feet wide at 10 years of age in their test trials. The flowers open white in early summer and age to a deep pink. Zones 5 - 8. Another great native plant, and one that can be propagated and grown by all as it is not burdened by patent laws and fees.
