Large, shrub with arching canes to 10 feet with a profusion of white flowers in drooping panicles or racemes in May (GA). The flowers are slightly fragrant to a keen nose. This was Sir Harold Hillier’s favorite deutzia according plant explorer Roy Lancaster and for a week or two in mid-spring it stuns. Best subjected to an annual pruning of a third of the oldest canes to the ground after flowering. Flowers best in full sun or light shade. Zones 7 - 9.
