Bowles Mauve Wallflower - trade gallon

$18.00
This is a perennial that looks like a small shrub since the stems are woody. Makes a mound to about 3 feet & is happiest in a rock garden or extremely well-drained soil in a sunny site. Actually prefers poor soil to rich & is happier with the addition of some lime. Often planted in the south in the fall, overwinters, & flowers in the spring. Erysimum ’Bowles’ Mauve’ declines in the heat of summer & "should not be expected to persist more than two years." (Armitage) Think "pansies." Zones 7 - 8.

A wonderful addition to the sunny, fall garden. This aster is easy to grow and will give you great blooms in October and possibly November (depending on your climate). Really needs full sun to be at its best. If you prune it back in spring and again in late June, Fanny should stand on her own (require less staking). Height to 4 feet. Zones 4 - 8.

Festiva Maxima Peony - 2 gallon
Festiva Maxima Peony - 2 gallon

$28.00
We only grow 3 peonies on the nursery from the days when we sold cut flowers. They are not the easiest perennial to grow in the hot south since they do best after truly cold winters. However, if you grow early-blooming varieties and plant the buds or eyes about 2-3 inches below the ground you can grow these beauties into zone 7 & possibly 8. ’Festiva Maxima’ the the one variety in our garden that always draws attention. Best in full sun unless you are trying them in zone 8 where a touch of shade would help.

Caryopteris x clandonensis ’Minibleu’ is another of the recent introductions by Proven Winners. We’ve had good success with all of their plants we have tried (which is not the whole list). This beauty is compact with deep blue flowers in late summer or early fall. If you are in the warmer zones and have a longer growing season, a late summer light pruning after the first flush of flowers will produce a second show in the fall. Height to 3 feet. We list it as a perennial, but it falls in that intermediate category of sub-shrub. Further north it is best treated as a perennial, cut to ground each year after the show is over. In the south it may survive as a woody but since it blooms on new growth, you will have a nicer display the next year if you cut it back. Zones 5 - 9.
