Corylopsis species - 7 gallon
Corylopsis species - 7 gallon These are seedlings from the mature Winterhazels planted in field #4. As named when we planted them are four different species: Corylopsis glabrescens; C. veitchiana; C. sinensis; C. spicata. The seedlings sprouted downhill in a damp area below C. veitchiana, but we have no way to know which of the species are the parents. All of the potential parent species are large (12-15’ tall) multi-trunked shrubs so these seedlings will become a sizeable addition to any garden. Winterhazels bloom with dangling chains of pale yellow flowers in late winter before the new foliage emerges in the spring. Texts claim the flowers are fragrant, but if so, not heavily. A "smell test" survey from March, 1998, by a panel of four agreed that 5 of the 21 specimens were "slightly" or "faintly" fragrant and 1 was definitely so (C. glabrescens). None will be confused with Osmanthus. Zones (6 - 8). These are available for pickup at the nursery only.
