Dr. Dirr in his book, Hydrangeas for American Gardens, writes "Will the real ’Nikko Blue’ please stand!" alluding to the confusion in the trade of this old cultivar. We obtained our stock plant from cuttings taken at the National Hydrangea Collection, Windermere, Cumbria, England thanks to Toni Lawson-Hall (who also has a fine book on hydrangeas - "Hydrangeas, A Gardeners Guide"). It’s the only form of Hydrangea macrophylla ’Nikko Blue’ we have grown. It is, we believe, true to name. Height to 5 feet and as wide. Flowers well even after cold winters, but is not truly a re-bloomer. Zones 6 - 9.
