When most people think of the word, "hydrangea," bigleaf hydrangeas are what come to mind. Though they go by many different names - hortensia, florist's hydrangea, mophead hydrangea, and botanically, Hydrangea macrophylla, they're the ones with the big, orb-like pink, purple, or blue blooms and glossy green foliage. They do have a reputation for being a bit tricky to grow (something we can help resolve with our growing guide), once you understand their needs and growth habits, you'll find that they aren't truly difficult, they're just a little misunderstood.
